Somewhat Important Note:

Due to the popularity of the blog, I receive numerous Facebook requests before potential snowstorms. Although I am flattered that you want to follow me on Facebook, I would ask that you not friend request me unless you know me in real life. It's nothing personal, I've just decided I don't want too many friends on Facebook.

Thanks, John

You rock!! So professional, knowledgable - keep it up!!

Question...you and the NWS both now expect the heaviest snow accumulations to be further north. Do you see a possibility that the heaviest accumulations end up being further south like your forecast last night or is it pretty much a lock that it will be further north?

Good job John, it looks like you still have power, so that is good! We will enjoy our storm and thanks for all of your hard work these past few days!

There's a possibility but at the same time, there is good model agreement that a mid-level dry slot will affect the southern forecast area, which is why I have the highest accumulations further north. I have not looked into the NWS's discussion much but it's a good bet that that is at least a part of their reasoning as well.

Going even further north...HRRR now has most of SEMI at 8" or less. >_>

Will you say "I'm sorry" for being wrong on this forecast?

9 am. Clarkston, MI
We got 6 inches.... just another regular winter snow.

My dry slot concerns were correct! Long periods of light to no snow and also periods of sleet/ice. Chicago got 20+ inches! This area is cursed!

Hello, John. I am a substitute teacher in the LO district. I was at Scripps Middle when this "great storm" was the only topic. Some teachers remembered you and recommended your weather blog. It looks great! I'll check in often.

Some of the weathermen in the area siad Lake Orion got less than expected. However, looking at my yard, I would swear we got a foot of snow total. The drifts are even taller!

Great job once again John with the forecast and the snow day predictions! Any future storms we should know about?
