Somewhat Important Note:

Due to the popularity of the blog, I receive numerous Facebook requests before potential snowstorms. Although I am flattered that you want to follow me on Facebook, I would ask that you not friend request me unless you know me in real life. It's nothing personal, I've just decided I don't want too many friends on Facebook.

Thanks, John

Tomorrow

Quickly, because honestly, there's really nothing much to talk about when it comes to predicting cold days.

We will have a cold day. Guaran'sheed.

I am extremely confident.

-11 degree lows and -20 degree wind chills get results.

For even more concrete evidence on why schools could close tomorrow, check the "Comments" section below this entry.

Schools have allready started to close

John Schlenner said...

This is correct. I just checked WXYZ's website, and East Detroit Public Schools have closed for tomorrow. I'm sure more will start filtering in tonight. I expect a majority of the schools in SE Michigan to close for tomorrow (and Friday for that matter).

johnny boy you better be correct :)

when do you think our district is gonna call it?

John Schlenner said...

"when do you think our district is gonna call it?"

I honestly don't know. Our school usually doesn't call school until about 5:00 a.m. on the day school is going to be closed.

However, I can remember three times that they have called school the night before the day school was supposed to be closed, and one of those three times was the night before a "cold day". So, there is precedent.

What are your feelings about a cold-day on friday?

Very confident.

Weather.com says wind chill will only get down to -12 by 4-5 in the morning. National Weather Service says -24 wind chills over the night.
Weather.com is a bunch of bull.

John, how many boxes of cookie do you want to put down that we have school tommorow?

I'll put down one of those big cookies our school sells at lunch lol.

Weather.com is a terrible website. I think they had +2 as a forecasted low last night...we got down to -8.

John, is it true that the super intendent called you for information on the snow day before break and the "cold days" for this week? What did you say?

Anonymous said...

My brother (Who thinks John is like... supreme above all other people. ._.) Says that the Superwhatever called John.

From the way you wrote it John, I think you called him?

"John, is it true that the super intendent called you for information on the snow day before break and the "cold days" for this week? What did you say?"

This is correct. Mr. Gutman did call me the night before the snow day before break (although not for the cold days this week). I offered my honest opinion - which for that particular event was that we should have a snow day b/c 6-10" of snow during the day would make for an extremely hazardous commute home from school. If I didn't think we should have had a snow day on that day, I would have told him that.

So, should I do my homework tonight?

John Schlenner said...

"So, should I do my homework tonight?"

Yes. Always worth it to do your hw. Murphy's Law says that the one time you don't do your hw will be the one time we don't get a snow day when it's expected.

Anonymous said...

So the one time I don't do my homework, that's when there is school even though it is not anticipated? Well, then, I guess I could ruin it for everyone. I feel very powerful right now. I could blackmail someone into doing my homework for me in exchange for no school tomorrow, huh? I might just be onto something.

Psh. Why break tradition? I'm not even touching my backpack.

How did you start this webpage?

John Schlenner said...

"How did you start this webpage?"

No html involved - I just made a username on the blogspot.com site and started this blog from there.

Nice comments from the two people about homework, by the way. ;)

If we have no school tomorrow, then for sure there will be no school on friday.

so is tomorrow morning supposed to be a lot colder than this morning? cause i didn't think this morning was too brutal.

Truth.

"so is tomorrow morning supposed to be a lot colder than this morning? cause i didn't think this morning was too brutal."

Yes. There will be 10 mph winds tomorrow morning, resulting in -25 degree wind chills (this morning's wind chills bottomed out at -8 degrees)

As an aside, South Lake School District (right on Lake St. Clair) has become the second public school district to close.

The fact that you were wrong about today (and buses not starting at -8) is somewhat worrying to me. I'd really like to believe you, but I have my doubts. BTW, when you say "We will have a cold day. Guaran'sheed.", do you mean a day off because of the cold - guaranteed? Or are you just guaran'sheeing that it will be cold tomorrow? Because I don't need a meteorologist telling me it will be cold tomorrow. And in case you're guaranteeing a day off tomorrow, then you're going to have to face some angry people if you're wrong.

Excellent post. The "guaran'sheed" does mean I am guaranteeing a cold day tomorrow. I realize that anyone could tell you it will be really cold tomorrow morning, but I think I have found a niche in predicting snow days. However, I do realize I take a MAJOR credibility hit if we have school tomorrow. I do believe though that the school will face complaints if they send kids out into -20 degree or lower wind chills so they will call school.

-7 is the windchill, and only 9:00.

That cold day is looking really good big schlen.

Yep, and temperatures should really begin to nosedive once the clouds clear out more (it's mostly cloudy right now).

Now, I do have a lot of faith in your John but there is a problem. Yes the school will receive a great amount of complaints, but you have to think of it in the teachers and boards way. Can we lose a day that is vital to our studying for our exams!

Do not get me wrong, I honestly do not want to go to school tomorrow, but school could still be on tomorrow simply on the fact that it is so close to exams, am I now right?

Anyway great job John, I always check you site regularly for snow days. Keep it up dude!

I get your point, but have to disagree. Our school called 5 snow days in the first two weeks of 3rd term last year, which set some classes hopelessly behind in their lesson plans for the term.

Anonymous said...

yea, didnt we get like 8 snow days last year, and i herd one of the middle schools Principal said school wasnt going to happen tommarrow if the weather is the way it says its going to be.

Unknown said...

John its 11 at night. I just looked at the weather reports and they are only saying its going to only get down to -13 WITH the windchill. Are you still thinking the "cold day" is on for tommorow?

Unknown said...

John its 11 pm do you still think we are going to have a snow day? Not that many schools have closed so Im thinking we are going to have school since its about the same conditions as last night.

Anonymous said...

just an fyi.... rasheed wallace guaran'sheed two games... one was a win, and one was a loss.

so basically your giving us a 50/50chance of getting a snow day haha

Anonymous said...

the school won't call today, they may call school tom. If enough people call in and complain to the school about how cold it was. If no one complains then we have school tom. too, which does not make me happy.

Yepp...not a snow day. This is so disappointing.
